First, to answer your question, Q in LGBTQ is generally for queer – an umbrella term for anyone who doesn’t fit into the usual. Someone who might not identify as particularly male or female or pansexuals fall under the queer umbrella.
As for Tom’s early comment, I got your weaker people right here, buddy. The short of it, before Europeans showed up, a plague hit the Americas, killing off about 90% of the population. The vikings never set up a colony, like they did in Iceland and Greenland, because the native population kept slaughtering them, so instead they just had little raiding parties to grab resources and GTFO. http://www.cracked.com/article_19864_6-ridiculous-lies-you-believe-about-founding-america.html?wa_user1=2&wa_user2=History&wa_user3=article&wa_user4=popular Yes, it’s a Cracked article, but they site sources.
Basically, Squanto helped the pilgrims not starve to death, because he was lonely.

    1. Bart says:

      Hey Lee,

The vikings did manage to establish at least one settlement in what is now known as L’Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland Canada. The site has been dated to around 1000 CE and had eight wooden buildings including a smithy. The fact that there was a smithy would suggest a longer residency rather than just raiding parties. You are correct though in the assessment that it was natives that drove the vikings out.

In your story on the useless sex ed you discussed the HPV vaccine. While most of the claims were completely baseless (unsurprisingly) this one has a grain of truth. The vaccine protects against catching HPV but can’t do anything once you’ve caught it. As it’s so common (Wikipedia says 80% of US women will catch at least one strain before they’re 50) it’s best to vaccinate before people start having sex which is why it’s given to young teens. When it first came out it was thought that there was no point vaccinating people after they’d been sexually active for a few years (i.e. anyone over 25) but it looks like that’s being revised and is still effective in older women.

It’s also why there was that big argument over the vaccine when it first came out – the religious right thought that by giving a vaccine for a sexually transmitted disease to young people it encouraged them to have sex, not realising the whole idea was to vaccinate them before they became sexually active. It’s kinda funny how they’ve now seemingly got on board with the vaccination and are using the “don’t have sex before you get vaccinated” as an argument for abstinence.

It doesn’t change any of your arguments but I thought a clarification on the science might help.

Loved the “dirty glory hole” intro music! What is it?

    1. I am a big fan of this show and wanted to add a little to it. I took inspiration from different episodes and came up with “Walking to a Dirty Glory Hole” in the hopes they would use it and listeners would find it mildly amusing. I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🙂

      1. Forna Efternam says:

        Cool! We did! 😀

Any chance that I can get hold of it?

        1. I am amazed and flattered that anyone would choose to be subjected to it more than once.
I made a dropbox account and put in the MP3 for “Walking to a Dirty Glory Hole” and included a link.
Maybe I should try another song 😉
          Glory Hole!

My wife doesn’t listen to this show because of language, but I made her listen to the part where you said “men fight for the oppressed”, and the first thing that you thought was “unless the oppressed are women”. She probably still won’t listen for the language, but she now thinks you guys are great, and understands why people listen to the show.

Please don’t take this as a rag on language, she could care less how people talk, but after 20 years in the military working in aircraft maintenance, she just got tired of hearing it so much, so she stays away from it.

All that said, the show was great!
